Eden Research PLC (LON:EDEN) said its commercial partner Eastman Chemical Company has received authorisation to sell the sustainable biopesticides specialist's Cedroz product in Greece, marking the entry into the first of its key EU markets.

The country is important for the commercialisation of the terpene-based nematicide, with fruit and vegetable crops accounting for 18.8% of total agriculture production, Eden said.

Sign-off includes the use of Cedroz on tomatoes, strawberries, aubergine, peppers, okra, cucumber, zucchini, pumpkin, melon and watermelon both indoors and outdoors.

Demand for the product stems from it being residue-free and having a zero-day pre-harvest interval, which allows for its application right up to harvest.

It will be sold by a regional distributor, K&N Efthymiadis (KNE).

Eden’s chief executive Sean Smith pointed out the annual production of tomatoes in Greece alone is around 600,000 tonnes, “making it an attractive proposition” for KNE.

“The country also exhibits a wide range of other crops for which Cedroz is a suitable crop protection solution. Eden already has a presence in the region with its fungicide product, which is also distributed by KNE, and has recently received a label extension for Mevalone for use on olives and tomatoes for the treatment of botrytis,” he added in a statement.
