The US EPA is seeking risk reduction options for the pyrethroid insecticide, phenothrin, as part of the re-registration process. The Agency has concerns over residential and occupational exposure, acute risks to honeybees, and acute and chronic risks to aquatic invertebrates. Phenothrin is used to control mosquitoes in commercial and residential settings. The registration is being supported by Sumitomo Chemical and US company McLaughlin Gormley King (MGK - Golden Valley, Minnesota). MGK is seeking a tolerance to allow the use of phenothrin on all food and feed crops.
