Agrochemical and biotechnology solutions company Dow AgroSciences LLC in association with Hyderabad based GVK Biosciences has identified a new lead molecule meant for crop disease management. The newly identified lead compound addresses a key product goal in support of Dow AgroSciences’ growing agricultural chemicals business, the company said.
Dow Agrosciences had signed discovery research agreement with contract research firm GVK Bio over a couple years ago to generate new molecules for synthesis and testing as fungicides and insecticides in crops.
Typically it takes a time period of 8-10 years to move from the discovery stage to bringing the molecule in the market. The next step is to conduct field trials in different climatic conditions. The molecule is developed after the successful outcome.
"We are very pleased to reach this important milestone with GVK BIO under this collaborative discovery alliance. As we continue to invest in our strong agricultural chemicals business, we’re building partnerships with some of the world’s best research teams to discover creative new solutions in crop protection.” said Daniel R. Kittle, vice president of Research and Development at Dow AgroSciences.
The two companies said that have benefited from the depth of expertise in medicinal chemistry and chemo informatics. They have filed for the Intelelctual Property rights too.
"The collaboration validates GVK BIO’s ability and leadership in discovery programs and specifically our expertise in agro-chemical research. We are delighted with the outcome of the lead molecule and attribute it to the significant collaborative efforts of the GVK BIO and Dow teams,” said Manni Kantipudi, CEO, GVK Biosciences.
Both the companies hope that this molecule will be blockbuster. Experts say that a blockbuster in Agricultural segment could fetch anywhere around $300 million as revenues per year.
