Syngenta has launched its non-selective herbicide, Cerillo (paraquat + diuron), in Argentina as a complement to the herbicide, glyphosate, for use on autumn and spring fallow land. It aims to use Cerillo to stop the progressive resistance of weeds such as shepherd's purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris) and henbit deadnettle (Lamium amplexicaule) to glyphosate. Two industry associations, the CASAFE and the Ciafa, confirmed the first reported resistance to the herbicide in Argentina from a Johnsongrass (Sorghum halapense) biotype in 2006.
