Keyun Biocontrol, the well-known Chinese biopesticide company’s, Fall Army-Lure received a special emergency registration in Bangladesh in June to help Bangladeshi farmers control the fall armyworm, a devastating insect pest.

The fall armyworm is a lepidopteran pest that feeds in large numbers on leaves and stems of 80 species plants causing significant damage to economically important cultivated crops such as maize, ice, sorghum and sugarcane, as well as vegetables and cotton. Since its arrival in West Africa in 2016, it has spread to 44 African countries, India, Myanmar, and arrived in Bangladesh in November 2018. As soon as the fall armyworm was identified in Bangladesh, the Bangladeshi government immediately granted emergency approval for the use of Fall Army-Lure to control the insect on maize crops, while initiating the emergency registration procedure for Fall Army-Lure.

“The fall armyworm populations are unprecedented in Bangladesh agriculture,” said Yingjie Zhou, Global Marketing Director of Keyun Biocontrol. “The trial results indicated that Fall Army-Lure proved to be an effective pheromone product with the highest trap catches compared with other competent products. The Fall Army-Lure can not only be used as a monitoring measure to detect the first activities of the fall armyworm moth, providing the optimal spray timing for conventional control measures, but can also be used as mass trapping for the control of the fall armyworm, thus significantly decreasing its population.”

Located in Jiyuan City, Henan Province, P.R. China, Keyun Biocontrol is a professional China-based manufacturer and supplier of a wide range of baculovirures. Besides Baculoviruses, Keyun also produces and supplies beneficial insects, such as Harmonia axyridis, Orius spp., Arma chinensis,Cryptolaemus montrouzieri, entomopathogenic nematodes, and a dozen species of lepidopteran insects for research and test, as well as over 400 species of pheromone lures and biofungicides. Currently,  Keyun has obtained the registrations of Spodo-lure, Spodo-NPV and Fall Army-Lure in Bangladesh.
