CANTERRA SEEDS announced today the addition of two new Genuity Roundup Ready canola products to their 1900 Series. CANTERRA 1960 and CANTERRA 1918 will be added to the portfolio, and will complement CANTERRA 1950 and CANTERRA 1956, that were launched in 2009.
CANTERRA 1960 is a high-yielding, mid-season hybrid that boasts clubroot resistance.
CANTERRA 1918 is a top-performing, open-pollinated variety.
Clubroot is a soil borne disease that impacts canola. First identified in Alberta in 2003, it has been spreading rapidly through the province. Combined with good stewardship practices, clubroot resistant canola offers a means to manage the disease.
"Im excited about the success that CANTERRA SEEDS has had with our 1900 Series canola" says Ron Brand, director, sales and marketing for CANTERRA SEEDS, "Now with a high-yielding, clubroot resistant hybrid, and an outstanding open-pollinated variety, we continue to demonstrate the strength of our canola pipeline."
The new products are the direct result of the companys relationship with various breeding partners. Instead of limiting themselves to material from one canola breeder, CANTERRA SEEDS has the advantage of choosing material from no less than three separate breeding programs. Having multiple breeding partners allows them to select from greater amounts of material to find the best varieties to bring to market. This advantage can easily be seen by the addition of four leading edge canola products to the marketplace within the last year.
Seed supply has pushed the full launch of CANTERRA 1960 and CANTERRA 1918 to the 2011 growing season. However, look for them both in demonstration trials throughout western Canada this summer.
