Structural Optimization of Pesticide Registration Makes Preliminary Achievement

China pesticide industry structure is under progressive optimization, and 6 new regulations of pesticide have showed their effectiveness. Ministry of agriculture issued 6 new regulations in late 2007, including: Adjusted valid period of temporary registration from 4 years to 3 years; strengthened management of pesticide names, cancelled trade names and highlighted common names of pesticides; strengthened management of pesticide active ingredients; strictly controlled requirements of pesticide registration data, and raised industry access standard; standardized management of labels.

At present, the structure of pesticide has had 4 good changed.

Temporary registration and package registration is on the decline, while formal registration on the increase. Approved products reached about 26,000 by now, with about 7,000 of temporary registration, and 19,000 of formal registration, accounting for 73% of all.

The application for registration of environmental friendly formulations has been significantly increased. EW, WDG, water aqua, and microcapsule suspension are widely accepted by many pesticide enterprises. From 2008 to 2009, 325 approvals were given to EW products, 340 to WDG products, 1451 to water aqua products, and 22 to microcapsule suspension products, exceeding all the formulations approved from 1982 to 2007 respectively. 

The percentage of safety interval labeling has risen from 20% to 90%.

The number of new formulations keeps smooth growth. In the recent decade, China has 1-2 registration application for new formulations per year. From the Ninth Five-Year Plan till now, 32 pesticide active ingredients with proprietary intellectual property rights have been approved.
