Syngenta Receives Minor Use Registration for Allegro?500F

Syngenta Canada has received a minor use registration for Allegro® 500F fungicide （activity ingredient: Fluazinam">Fluazinam）to treat white mold (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum) in dry beans. White mold is a severe disease that causes significant yield losses for dry bean growers in Canada. This is the fourth minor use registration received for Allegro, which is already registered for disease control in crops including potatoes, certain legume vegetables and brassica leafy greens.

Allegro is the only crop protection product available from the pyridinamine chemical class and is a protectant non-systemic fungicide offering multi-site mode of action. Application rate for white mold on dry beans is 0.40L per acre in 120 to 400L of water per acre as a foliar spray. The first application should occur between first bloom and 10 per cent bloom (i.e. when 10 per cent of the plants have at least one open bloom). The second application should be made seven to 10 days later before 50 per cent of the plants have at least one open bloom.

Field trials at the Huron Research Station in Guelph, Ontario conducted over three consecutive years showed that Allegro offers superior suppression of white mold. “Our trials showed average yield increases of 27 per cent with Allegro and 37 per cent when Allegro was tank-mixed with Quadris®, when compared to the untreated check,” says Chris Gillard, a dry bean researcher with the University of Guelph.

When used as part of an integrated pest management program, Allegro which contains the Group 29 fungicide Fluazinam offers sustainable white mold management with little risk of resistance.
