Construction is underway on Syngenta Biotechnology’s research and development facility in China.
The RTP-based biotech arm of international giant Syngenta plans to commit $100 million to the project over the next five years.
Syngenta already operates at a temporary research facility in Beijing that opened in 2008 and employs some 70 people. Worldwide, Syngenta employs 24,000 people in more than 90 countries.
The company recently announced plans for further expansion in RTP, signing a lease for another 100,000 square feet of space and disclosing plans to purchase 50 acres of ground.
"This is an important milestone for biotechnology at Syngenta” said Michiel van Lookeren Campagne, the top executive for Biotechnology Research and Development and president of Syngenta Biotechnology, in a statement. “The capability expansion in China, combined with that of our U.S. biotechnology facility, will enable us to continue providing new solutions that increase crop yield and productivity, and offer additional choices for growers.”
