Potato growers across Canada now have the option of applying Scala fungicide by air for control of early blight. Scala is the only Group 9 fungicide registered to control early blight (Alternaria solani) in potatoes, and has been registered as a ground application since 2007.
Scala has a unique mode of action – different than strobilurins – and is registered as a tank mix with Bravo to provide two modes of action for stronger resistance management. Scala protects potatoes through locally systemic activity and translaminar movement, and is best suited for a preventative treatment program.
For aerial application, apply Scala only by rotary or fixed-wing aircraft when conditions are conducive to disease development and when meterological conditions allow for complete and even crop coverage. Repeat applications at 7-14 day intervals, to a maximum of six applications per season, and alternate Scala applications with fungicides that have a different mode of action. Refer to the full product label for specific Scala aerial application instructions.
Scala is a critical component in a fungicide management program in potatoes. For potato-growing areas where reduced sensitivity to strobilurins has been identified, Scala provides excellent disease control and a smart rotational tool.
Scala is also registered for control of a variety of diseases in apples, pears, grapes and strawberries.
