In June, a Committee of Member States representatives supported a proposal submitted by the European Commission to include the insecticide methomyl in Annex I of Directive 91/414/EEC, according to a DuPont press release. This decision will lead the Commission to formally approve methomyl for use on vegetable crops in the European Union. Lannate is an important crop protection product for European farmers, having been used safely over 40 years to protect more than 100 million hectares of crops.
"We are pleased to see the positive results of the vote for methomyl,” says Roger Doig, Regional Business Director Europe, Middle East and Africa, DuPont Crop Protection. "Many grower groups helped with their official requests for keeping the product for use within the EU, confirming its very high value to farmers. Now DuPont is working on country re-registrations in order to bring Lannate back to the farmers' toolbox as quickly as possible."
DuPont expects a long and sustainable future for Lannate and will continue to support and steward the product globally.
