New Technical Manager for Gowan UK and Ireland

Gowan has appointed Robert Plaice being Technical Manager UK and Ireland, a new position reflecting the company’s commitment and increasing significance in the UK and Irish markets.

“This new position is proof of Gowan’s continuing commitment and focus on the UK and Ireland,” says Dominic Lamb who heads up Gowan in these areas. “Robert is a highly experienced and well respected  manager in the industry. He brings with him a wealth of relevant experience, expertise and knowledge and I am convinced he will add significantly to the business,” says Dominic.

Since gaining an Honours degree in Agriculture at Harper Adams, Robert Plaice started his career at the sharp end in Farm Management, working in various roles within large businesses and having day-to-day responsibility for the efficient running of the farm. He then progressed into agronomy joining the distributor CSC (now part of Agrii) in Coldstream where his remit covered crop protection, nutrients, environmental advice and all crop aspects. He became an independent consultant for a few years and then joined Monsanto as Oilseed Rape Technical Specialist. Robert progressed to Technical Development Manager and latterly Business Development Manager with Monsanto, a key account role managing customers and distributors.

“This varied and successful career means that Rob brings technical, commercial, sales, management and farming experience with him – an invaluable combination of skills which can only add to Gowan’s continued success,” says Dominic Lamb.

“I am delighted to be joining Gowan at this exciting time. Avadex has grown into a “must have” starter herbicide in any black-grass control programme and I will be pleased to support our distributors, consultants and others to make sure it is used sustainably and to its best effect,” says Robert.

“Similarly Electis which has a unique mode of action, making it, too, an essential part of any blight programme. Gowan also has an exciting pipeline of products that we hope can get to market in the future. I am pleased to be part of such an optimistic business and look forward to making a positive contribution,” he says.
