MBI submits Grandevo bioinsecticide for Mexican registration

Marrone Bio Innovations, Inc. (MBI) announced it has submitted GRANDEVO® bioinsecticide for registration in Mexico. GRANDEVO controls a broad spectrum of insects and mites in a wide variety of agricultural crops. Upon registration, it will join REGALIA® MAXX biofungicide, the first MBI product registered in Mexico, in providing growers a high level of crop protection with the benefits of a bio-based product.
"Because of the large quantity of fruits and vegetables exported by Mexico, we believe GRANDEVO can satisfy a huge market need. The product is exempt from the maximum residue level (MRL) tolerances established for pesticides on food crops, so it is an ideal tool for helping growers avoid restrictions set by importing countries and regions like the U.S., Japan and the EU," explains Keith Pitts, MBI VP of Regulatory Affairs. He adds, "In addition, GRANDEVO can be applied right up to the day of harvest which is key to protect the appearance, quality, and market value of exported produce."
The active ingredient in GRANDEVO bioinsecticide is a microbe with insecticidal properties produced during the fermentation manufacturing process. GRANDEVO has multiple modes of action that makes the product an excellent addition to insect resistance management programs. This reduced risk of resistance is a real benefit in solving an increasing problem that hampers growers' ability to control crop-damaging pests. GRANDEVO—used alone or with synthetic insecticides, in rotation or in a tank mix—can help growers manage pests better and extend the useful life of other products.
The positive impact of this regulatory submission is summed up by Pitts, "The registration submission to Mexico of GRANDEVO is a very important step in making the benefits of the MBI line of biopesticides available to growers throughout Latin America and demonstrates the continued execution of our global revenue expansion strategy. REGALIA MAXX biofungicide is already being used in several countries in the region to help produce growers protect their export crops from diseases without pesticide residues and now this bioinsecticide will help some of these same growers protect their crops from destructive insects."
